Mainstreet programs have been operating for a number of years....The benefits which have resulted in participating local communities have been wide ranging and considerable.

Mission Statement
To support community economic development programs across Australia where the community, Local Government and businesses are working in partnership to improve the economic, social and physical environments of their communities.

Objectives
Mainstreet Australia has two principal objectives:

The networking of community economic development programs across Australia and their sponsors, members, employees and supporters at a local, state and national level;
The promotion of the long term sustainable future of community economic development programs at a state and national level

Mainstreet Australia's Role
In order to achieve its objectives, Mainstreet Australia's role is:

Promotion, development and sustainable growth of Mainstreet and similar programs throughout Australia
To provide input to Government policy at all levels on Mainstreet, Small Towns and similar programs
To provide professional advice, support and information for members
To provide and facilitate co-ordinator training and accreditation so that it becomes recognised as a career
To provide an ongoing network for Mainstreet programs and co-ordinators
To pursue links between programs in all Australian states, and other organisations involved in streetscape enhancement and economic development
To pursue sponsorship and funding opportunities
To establish and maintain a National Board of Management, State Executive Board, State Committees and secretariat to support Mainstreet Australia.

Mainstreet Australia aims to provide support for community development programs in both large and small communities whether rural, regional or suburban.

Membership:
Membership of Mainstreet Australia will be offered at the following levels:

Community
Based on population size to allow maximum participation by towns of all sizes

Local Government
This membership is for Local Government areas who would like to keep up to date with Mainstreet developments.

Co-ordinator
Training and accreditation for co-ordinators will be undertaken by Mainstreet Australia to establish its acceptance as a career path.

Associate
For those individuals, businesses and organisations who wish to have access to Mainstreet programs such as service and product providers.

Friends of Mainstreet
Individuals who wish to support the aims of Mainstreet programs and to keep up to date with developments.

Sponsor
Organisations who wish to show their public support for the Mainstreet program.

Mainstreet Australia has been formed as a non-profit organisation, with initial support from NSW Dept of State & Regional Development.
