Dave Wood - Master Calligrapher
No words can describe Dave's creative applications of the written word. Neither can computer scanned graphics give justice to the magnificent end result of many hours of meticulous and painstaking devotion to an ancient and beautiful art form.
Far beyond merely improving on the blank page, Dave creates magic in art.
You'll be enchanted and inspired by the array of two and three dimensional art works created with such media as pen and ink, watercolour, glass and pottery etching, silk, ceramics and timber creations etc.
Dave's unique 'word pictures' are breathtaking in their execution and in the visual pleasure that they exude. In these magnificent works, for which he is known worldwide, Dave combines his wonderful skills as a graphic artist, designer, typographer and of course as a world class calligrapher.
Dave studied with Mr Donald Jackson, Calligrapher to HM The Queen and is a Fellow of the highly respected, London based, Society of Scribes & Illuminators. Dave has exhibited throughout Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. He also teaches internationally and locally.
Dave's extensive list of exhibitions includes such hosts as St Paul's Cathedral in London, Australian National Trust properties and State libraries. His works are held in the collections of national, state and city libraries as well as such personal collections as that of John Gestener.
Commission work to date includes; Bronze Plaques for the Australian Bicentenary, International Cultural Corporation of Australia, Powerhouse Museum, NSW Art Gallery, the Flying Doctor Service and the British Council.
Another of Dave's specialties is limited edition handcrafted books which are also held in collections around the world.

Only two years old and already famous as a quality gallery for appreciators of fine art, the Dave Wood Calligraphy Art Gallery is indeed a beautiful place to be.
Dave and Jan's gallery has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Here you can peruse the many works on display including those created by Dave and those which are a meeting of the talents of Dave and other distinguished artists. The art of illumination and calligraphy are many centuries old and you'll see samples of works following this ancient tradition and also more modern interpretations, not only on paper and vellum but also on other decorative and functional artforms.
The gallery is open from 10am to 4.30pm, Thursday to Sunday.
